Generating Solar Power
Woodside Special Care Centre is a specialised housing center that hosts long-term residents who have severe and profound intellectual and physical disabilities. In South Africa, 5.1% of the population over the age of 5 are differently abled, and are often excluded from society and lack access to facilities and education that would drastically improve their lives.
Caring for individuals with disabilities is expensive and often requires external funding and governmental support. These individuals are extremely vulnerable to the ever increasing cost of electricity and facilities, and to the mounting global challenges linked to climate change.
Purchasing solar cells and leasing them to this project will give the facility a 37% saving per kWh off their electricity bill, relieving the burden of caring for the differently abled, as well as offsetting significant amounts of carbon per year. As a solar cell owner in this project, you will receive a monthly rental income powered by the sun whilst achieving measurable social and environmental impacts.
You can also choose to further boost your impact by donating a portion of your rental income to the Woodside Care Centre.
