Spar Supermarket | 148.92 kW | Touwsrivier, South Africa
Generating Solar Power
About this project
Touwsrivier Spar is the fourth supermarket in the global retail franchise to be going solar through Sun Exchange. Touwsrivier is located at 770m elevation, between the Hex River Mountains and the Great Karoo desert. Just outside of the town is the second largest Concentrated Solar plant in the world, proof that this town is an optimal location from which to source income from solar cells for the next 20 years.
Impact and benefits
Buying and leasing solar cells to this supermarket will reduce their operating overheads, improve job security and help keep food costs low. In return the supermarket has agreed to pay you for every kWh your solar cells produce for the next two decades. You’ll also make a positive environmental and social impact to an area that is especially vulnerable to climate change.
For each of our projects we nominate a charity for cell owners to optionally donate a portion of their income to. We have chosen the ‘Overberg Fire Prevention Association’ that works in education on and preventing bushfires.
